Capital Works – Community Presentation

Thursday, 18 May 2017

Now that our school has been announced in the State Budget to receive nearly $5.2m, we would like to invite our school community to attend a presentation to be led by Lucas Hodgens, our architect from e+ architecture. This will be a great opportunity to find out about how we intend to spend this money, to ask questions and to be informed about what happens next. During the last 12 months we have been in a planning phase that has involved our staff and our School Council. Without the guarantee of any money we haven’t been able to conduct such a meeting, however it is very exciting to be able to do this now with our broader school community.

If you are interested in attending, you are most welcome. Further details are below:

What: Capital Work Presentation

When: Monday, 19th June

Time: 5.30-6.30pm

Where: Senior Building (BER Building – near the bottom oval)

If you are unable to attend this presentation, I will be happy to discuss the plans with individuals after this date.

We want our students to tell us what they think

Thursday, 18 May 2017

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. The Department has updated the survey for 2017 to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement and performance. Students from Year 4 to 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing” your child. Your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during, or after completion of the survey.

Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned identifier that may be used by the Department to combine data for research purposes only. Your child’s privacy and the confidentiality of your child’s survey responses will be protected at all times. No identifiable personal data is included in the survey response file.

The survey results will be reported back to the school in term 3. No student can be identified in the results reported to schools or in any other report of the data. Results of the survey will be shared with the students and will form part of our Annual Report.

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school between Monday 5 June to Friday 23 June. The classroom teachers will coordinate the actual day. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information or visit the Department of Education and Training website: Attitudes to School Survey

TLC Coordinator

Friday, 12 May 2017

Ms Poulton has been the successful applicant for a leadership position within our school. She is now the Teaching & Learning Coordinator at SGPS.

This new position means that Ms Poulton will not be in her classroom of a Friday, although she will be here at school doing work related to this new role. Mrs Suzi Purcell will be teaching Ms Poulton’s grade every Friday. Ms Poulton will continue to teach Monday to Thursday in her classroom. Mrs Purcell is very familiar with our school, having worked here in 2015 and 2016 before taking family leave. Parents of Prep Poulton received a letter at the beginning of this term to outline the changes.

This new role was an initiative that stemmed from our recently completed School Self Evaluation and School Review.
