School Council Summary

Thursday, 25 August 2016

Our August School Council meeting was held recently. Many items were discussed and ratified, including:

Food Safety Supervisor

A staff member has offered to attend training and obtain a Food Safety Supervisor Certificate. Preference is for the canteen not to be operated as a business, but as a fundraising activity for the school. The canteen cannot operate in any form until the appropriate legal requirements are satisfied.

School Self-Evaluation and Review

We have decided to use Mike Roland from National Curriculum Services for our review. Unfortunately Mike is not available until term 1, 2017. However, we believe Mike will conduct a very thorough and rigorous school review. Further details will be made available when they are known.

Capital Works Project

I travelled to Melbourne earlier this month to meet with Lucas Hodgens and Nick Marino from e+ architecture. Since this time we have held two further meetings at school to discuss the project and the potential scope of works. Next week we will receive a visit from a landscape architect so that plans on the development of our grounds can continue.

Parent representation on the planning committee is seen as crucial to this project. Fiona Martin, our School Council President, and Ronnie Lowe have joined Mr Parkes, the architects and myself on this committee.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN results were released on the same day as our School Council meeting so only a very quick, limited summary was provided. These NAPLAN results will be discussed in detail at our next meeting.

Oral Health Screenings

Bendigo Health completed dental checks for 169 children, which was excellent.

Parent Club

Father’s Day Gift Activity - The Father’s Day fundraising activity this year will be artwork made by the children to take home for Father’s Day.

Choir Vests - The choir performed beautifully at the Victorian Schools Music Festival and the new choir vests looked wonderful on stage. School Council acknowledged the wonderful contributions made by Belinda Smith and Naomi Shellie for making the vests.

Education and Community Development Subcommittee

The following policies were ratified by School Council:

- Manual Handling Policy and accompanying forms for documentation of identified risks

- Cybersafety Policy

- Electronic Devices Policy

On behalf of all staff members I would like to thank Judy, Wendy, Gen, Sophie, Cheryl, Emily, Sophie and Jasmin for their fantastic support. We wouldn’t be able to focus on ours jobs without them.
