Friday, 15 September 2017

It’s the Fight Cancer Foundation’s most important national fundraising event. Football is all about spirit, strength, courage and the fight to win. Those touched by cancer need the same qualities to win their fight against the disease. Wear your team’s scarf (football, soccer or rugby), beanie, socks etc and make a gold coin donation to help support young people fighting cancer.

Students will have an early recess on this day (10.30am) and then walk down to the Spring Gully Soccer grounds at 11.00am for a variety of football based activities from 11.00am-1.00pm. The activities will include kicking, marking, handballing, goal kicking, longest kick competition, tackling, mini games and inflatables. South Bendigo Football Club players will be in attendance to assist staff. The activities will conclude with a parent/staff vs Grade 6 football match. All parents are welcome to join in. The students will then walk back to school for lunch. Parent Club are organising a Footy Food Day Lunch, however orders and money must be returned to school by this Friday, 15th September – no late orders can be accepted.

Please complete and return the permission slip below enabling your child to participate.

Don’t forget your gold coin donation on the day to help fight cancer.

Respectful Relationships

Friday, 15 September 2017

We are currently implementing the Respectful Relationships curriculum into all classrooms. As such, I would encourage you to ask your child about some of the lessons they have done. As you will be aware, Spring Gully Primary School is a Lead School in implementing this mandatory program. Our implementation team, consisting of Mr Parkes, Mrs Murphy, Ms Floyd, Mrs Yates, Mr Muscatello and myself, will be meeting again on Monday to continue the work involved in ‘rolling out’ this program. Part of the roll out will involve a launch day for our school and community next term. I hope to be able to provide further details soon.

As part of our Lead School role, Mr Parkes and Ms Floyd are doing a short presentation today for a number of schools to outline our journey so far. If you ever have any questions about this program please ask someone on the implementation team or just ask your classroom teacher.

The Big Write and VCOP – Phoenix FM

Friday, 8 September 2017

We had a very successful day on Monday learning more about our new writing program. Today the children participated in their second official Big Write. It was great to see the kids so engaged in their writing once again. I appreciate the number of parents engaging in ‘talk homework’. This is a really important part of the program and has a massive impact on the quality of their writing. I’m sure your child’s classroom teacher would be happy to show you the impact that it has.

Next Friday we are going to get the opportunity to showcase this program and the writing talents of some of our students through Phoenix FM. The Station can be heard on 106.7 MHz FM in Bendigo and streamed on the World Wide Web via the listen live button across the top of their website. We expect to go to air at 12pm. We will select a number of students to come along so they can read out their stories, ‘WOW word of the week’ sentences and to talk about the program. I’d also like to set our students a challenge of ‘up levelling’ one of my boring  sentences. The winner will get to read their ‘up levelled’ sentence on the radio. I tried my best to make this sentence exciting but all I could come up with was, I went to the beach. Help me out kids! Uplevel this sentence and submit it to me for the chance to read it out on the radio next Friday. Entries will close on Wednesday (13/9).
